Holly Ward Memorial Scholarship

Holly Ward was a young member of our church who was diagnosed at the age of eleven with an extremely rare condition known to only impact about fifty people worldwide. It is an illness with a significant impact on multiple bodily systems, but primarily the lungs. In October or 2024, at the age of seventeen, Holly succumbed to her illness and was taken too soon to be with the Lord.  As Holly struggled with her significant long term health challenge, it required high cost monitoring and treatment.  Her family knows how difficult these expenses are and that they are not considered as a part of FAFSA or needs based scholarship opportunities. They wanted to create an opportunity for students to receive assistance that may be having a similar experience.

This is a designated scholarship established in October of 2025. It provides a one time award of $1000 to a graduating senior of Watauga High School or local home school planning to attend a four year university or two year community college. Applicants will provide a one to two page essay describing resilience through medical hardships, demonstration of faith and kindness to others with active service through a church and service in the community. Special consideration will be given to those who are also involved in the arts. Letters of recommendation outlining these qualifications and financial need will be considered in the selection process.  Please click the link below to apply for the scholarship:
